Missing the Seattle-Bremerton ferry is the worst. The next one doesn’t come for more than an hour, and the Seattle ferry terminal is hardly the most pleasant place to wait. Today, after sprinting for 10 minutes straight because I really, really, really didn’t want to miss the ferry… I missed the ferry by one minute. Just as I was running in the woman behind the ticket counter said “we just raised the gangplank, sorry!” Nothing to be done. I threw my Orca Card onto the floor in frustration.
The experience was a lesson in anger management. Was I going to let my bothersome predicament befoul my mood? No. I sat down, collected my thoughts, and focused on the positives of the situation: I was still arriving in Bremerton earlier than I usually do. I had an hour to focus on practicing programming interview questions. And I had, in a sense, just completed my daily run!
That’s not to say I was elated about the situation either. But I was able to take advantage of it to read a little bit about Seattle tenant rights (more on this later) and focus on reading my programming book. So not an altogether unproductive hour!
Furthermore, now I’ve truly learned my lesson about timing my attempts to catch the Bremerton ferry on time. Here’s to this never happening again!
