The West Coast - VII

I'm back to the East Coast, so this is the final "West Coast" entry! I will be returning to the West Coast sometime before October 19th, when training for one of the jobs I was interviewing for begins.

Pat returned to the house in Portland a few days ago. Just before she got back, Kelly and I drove to the top of Mount Tabor, to admire the sunset, have an existential conversation, and play ukelele.

On Monday, we headed up to Seattle to spend the night on the boat where Maiya is working. The marina was a 45 minute walk to town along a bicycle path that circles an industrial shipyard. Wild, organic blackberries grew everywhere alongside the path, and they tasted delicious. In the shipyard, there were giant, jagged pieces of metal, which we surmised were anchors.

Giant anchors?

In town, we joined Maiya's friend for a coffee. We then walked through a park stretching below the Space Needle that had a really cool playground, a skatepark, and a giant Space Orb-like fountain. It brought us all back to our childhoods, and we couldn't resist each going for a ride down the slide ourselves.

The playground - these kids are lucky!

Afterwards, we went for pizza, and were joined by a mutual friend of Kelly's and Maiya's from Hendrix; Daniel. We all then headed to a bar to have a beer, and joked around about the Space Orb. It was a fun, complete day, and by the end of the long walk back we were exhausted. We happily crashed on the small bunk beds of the sailboat. The next day, I flew home to New York!
