Picking Cranberries

Airelles, a small type of cranberry, grow rampant in certain parts of the alpine woods. Today, my mother and I decided to capitalize on this fact and go berry-picking in the late afternoon - a welcome break from my job searching. The harvest was meager, maybe enough to produce half a cup of sauce, but it was certainly a fulfilling experience. Indeed, the act of gathering itself feels deeply satisfying; perhaps a vestigial trace of ancestral neurology.

But the nicest part of the walk was the chance to have an honest talk about my future with mom. She was once in the very situation I'm in; a careerless 20-something in the US who still lived at her parents' home. Among many salient pieces of advice, she recommended that I should not live alone with Kelly, and that we should find roommates. This sounds like a great idea. It'll be good to be part of a big community in Seattle.

I am impossibly tired as I write these words, but happy with my day nonetheless. I am very close to sending my first job application. Many more are to come, hopefully!
